Scar Therapy and Post-Surgical Recovery

Scar Therapy is a specialist treatment designed to address scar tissue, fibrosis and adhesions following surgery, injury or trauma.

Treatment may help to:

  • Improve mobility and flexibility

  • Reduce pain, sensitivity and numbness

  • Ease tightness, pulling and fascial restriction

  • Improve movement and comfort

  • Reduce post-surgical swelling and fluid congestion

  • Support both functional and cosmetic improvement

  • Improve tissue mobility and scar flexibility

Scar Therapy can be beneficial following both open and keyhole surgery, as well as scars resulting from trauma or injury.

I regularly work with people recovering from:

  • Breast cancer surgery and reconstruction

  • Hysterectomy and abdominal surgery

  • Caesarean birth

  • Knee replacement surgery

  • Hip replacement surgery

  • Orthopaedic procedures

  • Burns and skin grafts

  • Hand trauma

  • Cosmetic surgery

  • Accident and injury-related scarring

Treatment Approach

My approach combines specialist scar therapy, myofascial release, lymphatic techniques and LymphaTouch® technology to improve tissue mobility and support recovery.

Treatment is tailored to the individual and their scar. Alongside hands-on treatment, clients may receive guidance on self-massage, movement and recovery strategies to support longer-term outcomes.

Recovery is often about more than the scar itself. Surgery and injury can affect movement, confidence, comfort and everyday life. My aim is to provide skilled, compassionate support that addresses both the physical effects of scarring and the wider recovery process.

LymphaTouch®

LymphaTouch® is a specialist medical device that uses gentle negative pressure to support scar therapy, tissue mobility and lymphatic flow.

It can be particularly helpful following surgery, helping to soften and mobilise scar tissue, reduce swelling, improve movement and address areas of tightness or restriction.

Unlike traditional cupping techniques, LymphaTouch® uses precisely controlled pressure and is tailored to the needs of the individual and the area being treated.

Where appropriate, LymphaTouch® may be incorporated into Scar Therapy & Post-Surgical Recovery treatments at no additional cost.

When Should Scar Therapy Begin?

Early treatment is often beneficial, but it is never too late to begin.

Many people seek treatment within the first year following surgery, while others come with scars that are several years or even decades old. Both can benefit from treatment.

I also offer pre-surgery consultations, helping clients prepare for planned surgery and supporting recovery before treatment begins.

Scar Assessment & Rehabilitation

Vibrant Matter provides scar assessment, scar management and rehabilitation support for individuals recovering from surgery or injury.

Scar Therapy appointments are available as both 60-minute and 90-minute sessions. Longer appointments may be particularly beneficial for complex scars, multiple scar sites or more extensive post-surgical recovery work.

Testimonials

  • "I have had a number of operations with resulting scars, which I never even thought there was an option to reduce or improve how these look. There is!! I cannot believe the difference after one session, my scar looked less 'angry', became relaxed and was considerably less obvious, even years after the surgery! Louise has recently invested a chunk money in a new LymphaTouch therapy machine, which uses a suction technique, very effective but a blooming lovely experience also!"

  • "I have been having treatment with Louise following a traumatic accident to my ankle and knee. I have seen a big change in reduced swelling, easier and smoother movement and a feeling of lightness in my ankle and knee. My scars are smoother and the pain has reduced. Louise has used a unique combined technique of therapies. I am very happy with the results. I can completely recommend her. ***** Excellent."

  • "I had an accident in December 2018 leaving me with significant scar tissue from the trauma and the after effects of a massive haematoma. Since then I have on going pain, tightness and loss of mobility on my right hip area which has stopping me being able to fully participate in the activities I enjoyed (running, walking), and given me ongoing pain and discomfort. I have had a number of treatments over the years, treating the pain etc. and I was unsure if anything could be done as the accident happened a while ago. Louise completed an initial assessment asking lots of questions about my lifestyle, and the impact of the injury and asked me what my treatment goals were: increase mobility, reduce pain and the fluid around the scar area."

  • "Louise began treatment on the scar area involving massage and other forms of manipulation. We decided a course of 4 treatments spaced over a few weeks. From the first sessions the difference was remarkable. Louise was able to treat the area so that there was a visible reduction to the appearance of the scar and I could feel the difference as it has softened considerably. She treated the injury holistically not just concentrating on the scar itself but the surrounding areas and on the opposite side of my body."

  • "Expertly softening and reducing the scar, reducing my pain which I have experienced constantly for 6 years and improving the mobility and flexibility in my hip area. I cannot thank and recommend Louise enough. The difference is amazing. I'm back to pain free walking and running and have recently taken up Pilates. If you have scar tissue causing you pain and discomfort then please do not hesitate to book in with Louise. It is hands down the most effective treatment I have had. Thank you again Louise. "

  • "Louise is an outstanding therapist in her field and I cannot recommend her highly enough. I had no idea that there was even a therapy for scar tissue in Lancaster. After only a couple of sessions with Louise my relationship with my scar has changed. My scar on my leg has softened due to the knowledge and nurturing techniques Louise uses and what I really like is I feel I have a safe space to talk about my scar and I really feel heard. The whole experience has shown me that when you find the right therapist it can be life changing. Thank you Louise."
